A South Sudanese community leader in Sudan is appealing to the South Sudan government to rescue hundreds of its citizens who are trapped in the months of fighting and are reportedly “getting killed” on daily basis.

Zubier Lual, a refugee in the Gezira State, told Eye Radio that the situation is deteriorating while there is no humanitarian corridor for them to escape.

“Our situation is very bad because the warring parties are killing the civilians, a lot of South Sudanese are killing every day, especially in Khartoum thousands have been killed,” he said.

Speaking from hideout in Wad Madani, Lual said all roads leading out of Khartoum and Wad Madani are closed, making it difficult for them to escape. He also said there are incidents of robbery against the refugees and other residents.

“I am calling upon the government of South Sudan to assist us in returning our people home to South Sudan. I am currently in Madani and every morning, we are always getting people dying.”

“Those of warring parties are making our lives difficult here in terms of killing, robbery, and the other issue is that the road is closed, and you cannot make it to go back home with your money and smartphone, the road of Al Obied is also not working.”

The conflict in Sudan is now in its sixth month with no sign of abating.

Thousands of civilians have been killed and hundreds of thousands displaced with tens of thousands taking refuge in neighboring countries including South Sudan.
