Former UNMISS security guards organized a peaceful strike this morning at the UN house on Yei Road.

They blocked the main road, demanding payment of their pension.

The guards say the money range from 30 to 50 thousand US dollars for each person. Eye radio spoke to some of them.

“We have formed this kind of a peaceful demonstration not because we want to fight or to throw any stone to anybody,” said Zwoukumbo Edward.

The workers were laid off in December 2014.

“The termination that we received from UNIMISS administration South Sudan…..is against human rights and dignity,” said another pensioner, Christopher Tombe.

“We can’t be terminated the way it is. And you notice the market [food prices] in Juba is hotter than hot.”

Meanwhile, the deputy spokesperson for UNMISS, Joseph Contreras, says the mission is working on the matter.
