The South Sudan embassy in Kampala has warned all South Sudanese in Uganda to be more vigilant during the presidential elections scheduled for next week.

Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni is being challenged by a longtime opposition leader, Kizza Besigye, and former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi.

The embassy in Kampala has issued a circular directing South Sudanese to take extra care within this period of the elections.

The spokesperson of the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Amb Mawien Makol, told Eye Radio that the embassy is monitoring the situation closely.

“The election time is always difficult and our people have to be careful wherever they are and where ever they go,” Amb Makol said.

There are thousands of South Sudanese in the neighboring nation, particularly in the capital, Kampala.

Majority of them are students.

The voting day is the 18th of this month.
