Two S. Sudanese killed in gang related violence in Khartoum

At least two South Sudanese have died in a gang-related violence in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum on Tuesday, an official in the South Sudan Embassy in Khartoum has said.

Joseph Yor, the Humanitarian Attaché at the South Sudan Embassy in Khartoum says the incident happened in Karari, North of Khartoum between two South Sudanese gang-groups.

He said the fight between the two groups first broke out on Sunday and continued up to Tuesday evening.

Yor told Eye Radio that police in Khartoum arrested an unspecified number of the unruly South Sudanese youth.

“There is a group that attacked in Karari in the city of Omdurman and the young men in there repelled them, and there are an unknown number of casualties,” Yor told Eye Radio.

“There is a group that attacked in the city of Omdurman and the young men there confronted them, and there are an unknown number of injuries and the death of two people. After an hour of the fight, the police intervened and broke up the fight and took the dead bodies to the mortuary.

“A number of young men from the two groups were arrested and are currently being investigated. There is stability in the region and we have contacts with the authorities on the ground.”

He said the police are investigating the matter.
