Tough actions to be taken against peace talks obstructors

A meeting of the IGAD Council of Ministers in Nairobi has recommended that tough actions should be taken against any party that hinders the South Sudan peace dialogue in Addis Ababa.

The meeting discussed the crisis in South Sudan and the situation in Somalia.

According to IGAD website, a progress report was presented by its Special Envoy, Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin.

The IGAD Ministers also discussed the problems that contributed to the delay in the peace talks in the last two months.

The Council members agreed unanimously that the stalling of the talks was by large due to refusal of the SPLM-In Opposition to participate in the talks contrary to what was agreed in June.

The council members also briefed IGAD rapporteur, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on the outcome of the Ministerial meeting.
