Traders in Torit in Eastern Equatoria State have petitioned the mayor of the municipality against the relocation of the Juba-Torit-Road market to Torit Model.

They want the mayor to grant them more time before the transfer.

After receiving the petition yesterday, Martin Odeki said the transfer was a resolution by the state assembly.

“This has been an order passed by the parliament to the municipality that all traders have to move to the new market,” Mr Odeki told Eye Radio in Torit.

“Since my appointment in September, I have been announcing it monthly to make the traders aware that they are moving to the new market and it was very unfortunate yesterday they wrote to me a letter to give them some few months.”

Many traders left the Torit Model market last year because of what they described as lack of customers.

However, Mr Odeki said the market has enough space.
