Police authorities in Tombura County of Western Equatoria State have launched a manhunt for five suspects accused of gang-raping a 16-year-old expectant lady who later had a miscarriage.

Tombura Commissioner Matthew Mabenge narrated that the survivor, who was 5-month pregnant, was coming back from a community event at 11 p.m.

According to the commissioner, the suspected rapists met the young woman along the way and lied that her husband is cheating on her with another woman, while offering to direct her to their place.

They reportedly tricked the survivor into a nearby bush and raped her, before escaping the scene.

“A group of 5 young men came to this girl and told her that her husband had gone with one of the girls,” Mabenge said.

“They asked for her help in identifying the whereabouts of her husband, and halfway through they raped her.”

“She was five months pregnant. On the next morning, she reported to the police and there was water coming out of her stomach.”

After she reported the matter to the police, two of the suspects were arrested before they escaped with the help of a police investigator.

The commissioner told Eye Radio he has ordered of arrest the police investigator for obstruction of justice.

“We investigated, identified and arrested them and transported them to prison to await trial. The investigator colluded with the accused and helped them escape. The investigator was arrested and ordered to search for the suspects.”

Commissioner Mabenge further said the young girl is receiving treatment at Tombura Hospital.
