South Sudan Police Spokesperson has called on Juba residents not to panic after rumors of tension and heavy deployment of security forces spread on social media.

Unverified information widely shared on Meta platforms Facebook and WhatsApp claimed tension was mounting in Juba – with security personnel cordoning off major streets in the capital.

Major General Daniel Justin dismissed the alleged tension as fake news and urges the public to ignore it.

“Actually, there was nothing because if there is anything, we are the one to alert our public in regard to anything’s, but as usual, as you know, we have been updating you through media, that the security situation is normal,” Justin said.

He clarified that the security forces were doing their normal patrolling, adding that the city residents have all reported to work this morning.

“So, if there is anything, it will be from official source and it will be announced to the public. So, they should not panic, the situation is normal, we are now in our offices, people are doing their businesses, shops are open nothing bad completely.”
