The commissioner of Mundri East in Western Equatoria State says there are no enough teachers in the county.

January Sabit Johny told Eye Radio that in Kadiba Payam, which is the headquarters of the county, there are only three teachers.

Mr. January said some of the teachers in the county are not qualified to teach upper classes in the primary schools.

“Those who are teaching they not qualified and don’t have ability of teaching and they can’t teach the high classes in the primary schools like class seven and eight,” he confirmed.

He said that some Bomas have no schools and that children have to walk long distances to the few schools.

The commissioner said these challenges have affected education in the county.

Lack of enough teachers is a common phenomenon in the country due to little pay, officials say. Many leave the teaching profession for well-paying NGO jobs.
