The leaders of Sudan’s rival forces have heeded President Salva Kiir’s call for a ceasefire for 24 hours to open a humanitarian corridor for civilians, according to the Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Dr. Benjamine Barnaba  Mariel says Kiir reached out to the leader of Sudan Army, Muhamed Adel Fatah Al Burhan and his rival Muhamed Hemiti Hamdan Dagalo to agree on humanitarian ceasefire.

This is to enable civilians who are trapped inside their homes  to access essential supplies.

“President Kiir persuaded them to agree to a humanitarian ceasefire. The discussion ended with both parties agreeing to a 24-hour ceasefire,’ he said.

It is also to allow IGAD delegation to travel to Khartoum to engage the Sudanese leaders to end the conflict.
