The government says the peace talks may be delayed due to the split within the SPLM in Opposition.

On Wednesday, the military spokesman of the SPLA in Opposition, Brig General Lul Ruai Koang broke away from Dr. Riek Machar and formed a new movement.

He says his group will separately negotiate with the government for the creation of a separate state of Akobo.

Government Spokesman and Minister of Information, Michel Makuei Lueth, says government delegation needs to know the legitimate representative of the opposition to continue with the talks.

‘‘As long as it is already divided house, necessity may require us to ask the rebels to put their houses in order before we could talk with them,” he said.

Mr. Michel Makuei says the government delegation is leaving this afternoon for Addis Ababa for the resumption of talks.
