The SPLA captured Panakuach town in Unity state yesterday from the SPLA- in – Opposition.

The army spokesperson, Philip Aguer, says the town is important because it is close to Sudan. He says fighting was reported in the area yesterday morning.

“Now the control over pan Panakuach has put an end to the rebels’ claims that they are controlling some parts of oil fields because Panakuach is the last point toward the border with the Republic of the Sudan,” Col Aguer said.

The Spokesperson of the SPLM- IN – Opposition, Dickson Galuak confirmed that the area has been taken from them by the SPLM-North.

He says the government did not take over the area.
