South Sudanese in the US urge leaders to end the conflict

South Sudanese and Sudanese living in the United States of America are urging the warring parties to end the conflict and bring a lasting peace to the country.

Yesterday marked one year since the civil war broke out in the country last year.

Emmanuela Dimbiti, a South Sudanese college student studying in California State, says if the war does not stop, many South Sudanese who are living in the U.S including herself would not return home.

“I’m planning to go back, but I can’t say when until everything goes well,” Ms Dimbiti told Eye Radio’s Nichola Mandil during his recent tour of the US.

She urged the government and the SPLM in Opposition to think about the people who are suffering as a result of the one-year conflict.

Over 1.9 million people have been displaced during the past year, and without peace, famine remains a possibility in 2015, according to the United Nations.

“Before they think about the position, they should think about the people who are suffering actually,” she added.

A Sudanese living in Californian State, Fetei Haroun, urged the warring parties to engage in dialogue in order to bring lasting peace to the country.

“They should listen to the voice of wisdom and ask themselves what do they want? Do they want to destroy their own people, the people who voted that there must be a country where everyone was supposed to know their rights and duties,” said Mr Haroun.

The IGAD mediation team has announced that the next round of the South Sudan peace talks is expected to start in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa tomorrow.
