The World Food Program says logistical constrains and insecurity remain major concerns to humanitarian operations in the conflict affected areas in South Sudan.

Today South Sudan joins the rest of the world in celebrating World Food Day.

The theme of today’s celebration is: “family farming, feeding the world, caring for the earth”.

The agency says despite the on-going conflict, there has been some improvement in food security in the areas that have been affected by the conflict.

The W-F-P’s Public Relation Officer in South Sudan, George Fominyen said people in these areas were able to grow some food.

“The truth is we must not be complacent we are not yet out of the roots, logistical constrains in the country continue to be there, insecurity situation is still a concern…” he said.

Mr. Fominyen urged the warring parties to stop the war and bring peace in order to help provide food for those affected by the conflict.

“So we are calling on all the parties to the conflict to put the needs and aspirations of South Sudanese people first that is the main thing. And if we can have that, then we will have situation where people can start returning to their homes, start returning to their farms. Also it will be easy for us, in a way that we can be able to assist more and more people.” Forminyen said.

Mr. George Fominyen says W-F-P has provided food for 2.5 million people in the areas affected by the conflict, since the conflict erupted in mid-December last year.
