Real Madrid humiliate Liverpool in 5-2 thriller in Champions League

Real Madrid came from two goals behind to humiliate Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 clash at Anfield.

In the first half, Liverpool stepped up with a two-goal lead after Darwin Nunez made a fabulous and Mohamed Salah utilized a blunder from Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to strike in from a close range.

However, a thrilling comeback from Real Madrid saw both Viniscius Junior and Karem Benzema netting two goals each to sum up to Eder Militao’s goal, dashing hope of the Reds’ Champions League campaign.

“In the closing minutes, with Liverpool dispatched by Carlo Ancelotti’s brilliantly ruthless team, the voices of players could be heard shouting to each other while Klopp stood crestfallen and motionless with his hands in his pockets,” quotes BBC analysis.

Liverpool, who have conceded five goals for the first time in club’s Champions League history, will look to a difficult comeback in their second leg at the Santiago Benabeu on March 15.
