The office of the President says President Salva Kiir will discuss in a few days lifting of the state of emergency that was imposed on the Greater Upper Nile in 2014.

The areas affected by the State-of-Emergency include former Jognlei, former Unity and former Upper Nile states.

The region was marked as a hotspot in the heat of the conflict.

It says that lifting of the state of emergency is an urgent matter because citizens in the region have not been moving freely since the peace agreement was signed.

“This is a concern and it is the next phase of the presidency which now includes the president, the first vice president and the vice president, so the next few days lift the state of emergence and allow the citizens from both controlled areas to be moving actually freely,” SAID Ateny Wek, the Press Secretary in the Office of the President.

Mr Ateny told Eye Radio that movement has been restricted in the Greater Upper Nile region, especially in the upper Nile that citizens are not moving together.

“Those who are in malakal cannot move to go outside malakal and those who are in town in Nassir cannot move outside Nassir and vice versa.”
