President Salva Kiir has assured the government’s commitment to implement the resolutions and recommendations adopted during the first National Economic Conference.

Kiir says the Ministry of Finance and Planning will receive wider support in determining appropriate ways on what next to do with the resolutions .

Kiir also hopes to see the resolutions and recommendations table before the Council of Ministers for further discussions to determine the ways of implementation and rectifications.

“I would like to assure you that this [National Economic Conference] resolution will be implemented because we plan to give them a government-wide backing,”  Kiir made the remark at the closing of NEC at Freedom Hall Juba on 9/09/ 2023

“It will not be up to the Ministry of Finance and Planning to decide what to do with the resolutions. It will be tabled before the Council of Ministers by the Minister of Finance and Planning himself for further discussions to determine the appropriate ways to implement them.

“After the cabinet resolves, it will be sent to the parliament for further discussions and rectifications,” he said.

President Kiir also urges citizens and developmental partners to exercise a level of patience as South Sudan looks forward to fixing its economic meltdown

“Things will not change overnight, what we plan to achieve is to attract investors in many sectors of our economy while in this new direction, am urging patience from our people and the same message goes to our partners

“South Sudan can adopt the best practices from others, but WE cannot do that straight away because our specific political, social, economic, and cultural context will vary on the page of reform we implement.”
