UN Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan, Toby Lanzer, has urged political and religious leaders to work together and end the current crisis in the country.

Mr. Lanzer says as the conflict continues, children and women are at risk of starvation.

He says the focus of donors has been shifted from issues such as maternal health and education, to humanitarian assistance.

“Now it’s really a time for the leaders of this country, including all of the religious leaders, the parliamentarians, the government officials, those in opposition, to come to their senses to dig down deep and act, not only talk,” he urged the leaders.

“Right now, your children are starving, your mothers are hungry and I am very annoyed about it. It is not fair on the people of this country.”

Mr. Toby added that floods have worsened the conditions in the UN camps, where displaced persons are taking shelter.
