The Chief Administrator of Pibor says insecurity in some parts of the administrative area is hindering access to humanitarian assistance for people displaced by the conflict.

The restive region has witnessed inter-communal violence for a week now.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, an estimated 30,000 people have been displaced, following violent clashes in the area.

OCHA said the violence has also led to cattle raiding, destruction of properties and displacement of thousands of people.

It added that some 5,000 internally displaced people, including women and children, have arrived in Pibor town after fleeing the conflict areas of Gumuruk and Lekuangole.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Thursday morning, the Chief Administrator of Greater Pibor Administrative Area said the attackers have not left all the Payams, making it difficult for humanitarian agencies to deliver aid to the displaced.

Lokoli Ame Bullen added that the displaced people are currently residing within Pibor town.

“Some time we get the full report after people left in the area but if they are still around fighting with people we cannot get concrete number,” Lokoli said.

“Some of them are in Pibor, they come to Pibor. Yesterday some of the humanitarian cluster came to make assessment, now we still working on it so they can give a concrete number.”

“But the number we see, we cannot report it until the NGO who making assessment and SRC they come with concrete number,”

At least 56 people were reported killed and dozens were wounded in the days of escalating fighting in Gumuruk County.

Greater Pibor have left about 56 people dead and dozens in the days of violence in Gumuruk County.
