Central Equatoria State authorities and Ugandan officials from Koboko District have agreed to strengthen cooperation to address cross-border insecurity and smuggling along the South Sudan-Uganda border.

In a post on the Official Facebook of the Office of the Governor over the weekend, Emmanuel Adil Anthony and his security committee delegation held talks with the Resident District Commissioner of Koboko in Kaya, Morobo County.

The meeting focused on implementing resolutions from the South Sudan-Uganda bilateral talks, particularly sharing security information, conducting joint border patrols and improving coordination between security agencies.

Officials also discussed the illegal movement of fuel between the two countries and allegations that forged clearance documents are being used to facilitate the smuggling of charcoal from South Sudan into Uganda.

Both sides agreed on the need for timely information sharing and coordinated action to tackle cross-border crime while protecting communities and the environment.

The meeting also proposed a trilateral engagement involving South Sudan, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo to address security, trade, smuggling and other challenges affecting communities along their shared borders.
