More than 3, 000 internally displaced persons in Melut County of Upper Nile State received relief supplies on Wednesday, Manyo County Commissioner has said.

The relief supplies were donated to the displaced in Melut County by the Monyo County Community Development Committee.

Commissioner Peter Awan said more humanitarian aid is needed for the thousands of displaced people there.

“The items we distributed were 1,500 blankets, and around 2,000 plastic tents ‘Mashamat’ we gave blankets and plastic tents ‘Mashamat’ to the elderly and pregnant women, but we gave sorghum ‘dura’ for all,” Awan told Eye Radio on Thursday.

The displaced persons – who fled a series of armed attacks in Fashoda County and the neighboring areas – have been appealing for humanitarian assistance.

One of the attacks occurred on November 30, 2022, at the Aburoc IDPs camp in Fashoda which was hosting more than 6,700 civilians.

Some of the displaced persons are currently in Kodok and Melut areas.
