Toby Lanzer, UN Humanitarian Coordinator.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says it will deliver 335,000 metric tons of relief items to different parts of South Sudan in the dry season.

Addressing journalists in Juba, the Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs, Toby Lanzer, urged the warring parties to give access to humanitarian organizations to deliver food to the needy.

“It is 16 and a half thousands truck load. We need to move by road we cannot do this by air we cannot do it by having barges go up and down the rivers. So during the dry season it is absolutely crucial that we have seamless access along all the roads which are now drying.” Lanzer stated.

Lanzer also urged the leaders of the warring parties to ask their forces to leave the schools that they are occupying.

“Over the coming weeks we want to help a half a million kids to get back to the school. A half a million kids who have no access to education and who will be your future leaders. Because in school, it’s is not just about learning, this is where we can protect the kids, this is where can vaccinate them.” The UNOCHA boss said.

Lanzer also called on the leaders of the warring parties to bring peace to South Sudan so that people can embark on development.
