The Eastern Equatoria State Parliamentary Caucus at the National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA) has strongly condemned the killing of the Kapoeta East County Caretaker Commissioner in a roadside ambush this week and called for an immediate investigation.

According to state authorities, Commissioner Lowosio Stephan Lomongin was ambushed and killed by unidentified armed personnel on Friday while traveling to the Kessengor area. State officials have since confirmed the recovery of his body from the scene of the attack, located in the disputed area of Kessengor.

During a media briefing in Juba on Saturday, Julius Ajo Molinga, the Chairperson of the Eastern Equatoria State Parliamentary Caucus, read out a formal letter of condemnation on behalf of the lawmakers, describing the killing as a direct assault on peace.

“The Eastern Equatoria State Caucus condemns this savage, unprovoked, and cold-blooded assassination in the strongest possible terms,” Molinga stated.

“This heinous act of aggression will never be tolerated in our communities or in our state. In light of this tragedy, we demand that the state authorities and the national government immediately intervene to restore order and find a permanent solution for peace and stability in our area.”

The caucus has urged national and state security agencies to launch an immediate, thorough investigation to uncover the motives behind the crime and apprehend the perpetrators.

Furthermore, the lawmakers called on the upper house of parliament to intervene politically, given the location of the attack.

“The national government and state security organs must conduct a comprehensive investigation to uncover the exact motives and identify all orchestrators behind this heinous crime,” Molinga added.

“The Council of States must exercise its legislative authority to summon the leadership of both Eastern Equatoria State and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area to answer for this security breach following the investigations.

“We call upon the communities to remain vigilant but calm, allowing state and national authorities the necessary space to conduct thorough investigations.”
