Authorities in Bor County in Jonglei State say 4 people were killed and 3 others wounded during a cattle raid on Sunday night.

Speaking to Eye Radio, Bor County Commissioner Samuel Ateny Pech said the attack took place in Mathiang Boma of Baidit Payam.

He added that about 20 cattle were killed during the incident.

“Yesterday, on the 7th, criminals from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area attacked Mathiang Boma in Baidit Payam of Bor County, Jonglei State,” he said.

He alleged that the attackers came from the neighbouring Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

The commissioner said those killed include 3 men and 1 girl, while 3 other people were wounded. He also said 90 head of cattle were taken and later recovered.

“The attackers raided 90 head of cattle, but all were later recovered. During the recovery operation, 20 cattle were killed in the crossfire and 12 others were injured.

“This attack happened despite the peace agreement signed between the Murle, Bor, and other communities in Greater Jonglei. Unfortunately, these criminals did not respect the peace agreement,” he said.

Commissioner Ateny condemned the attack, describing it as a setback to ongoing peace efforts between neighbouring communities.

Authorities in Greater Pibor have not responded to the allegations.
