The Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Sharif Daniel Sharif, is safe and in good condition after his vehicle was involved in a road accident, according to the state Minister of Information.
The accident occurred as Governor Sharif and his delegation were returning to Wau after taking part in activities to welcome President Salva Kiir to the state on Friday.

Photos circulating on social media show a black Toyota Land Cruiser V8 bearing the state emblem and registration number WBGS 001 with extensive damage to its front left side. A white Land Cruiser V8 also appeared to have sustained significant damage to its front section, suggesting the two vehicles may have collided.
State authorities said the accident happened while the governor and his delegation were travelling back from Marial Bai, where preparations and events related to the President’s visit had taken place.
Speaking to Eye Radio, Western Bahr el Ghazal State Minister of Information Samuel Nicolas described the incident as a routine road accident and reassured the public that the governor was unharmed.
“Yes, the accident happened, but it was a normal road accident. I visited the governor, and he is in good condition. Although I have not yet seen the other members of the delegation, the governor asked me to assure the public that he is fine and that everyone involved is safe,” Nicolas said.
The minister said he was at the airport when the accident occurred and had not yet received detailed information regarding possible injuries or casualties.
However, he said Governor Sharif had assured him that other members of the delegation were safe.
Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the accident.
