Newly established Lobonok hospital in bad shape

A new health facility handed over to Lobonok Payam administration this week has no staffs, medicines and laboratory services, residents have said.

The facility was constructed by the UNHCR and ACROSS to replace a makeshift house that used to be a drugstore.

The UNHCR says the new health center is to serve about 19,000 people in the payam.

Residents say the health center is incomplete without beds, laboratory equipment and bathrooms.

“On the issue of drugs, we suffer here if we become sick. We also need laboratory so that when you are sick, you can be tested. If the drugs are there, they can be brought to help us,” said a resident.

The UNHCR representative at the handover of the health center, Cosmas Khandas, says the refugee agency will respond to the needs if it finds resources.

“When we can afford as friends, truly we shall come back to you,” Mr Khandas told Eye Radio.

He says the health center was constructed at a cost of 400,000 South Sudanese Pounds.
