Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday tweeted that he is slowly recovering from COVID-19 in isolation – five days after he tested positive for the virus.

“Last night, I slept very well up to the 10th hour of the night. This time, the dull headache was not there, nor was the mild throbbing on the head,” Museveni said in a tweet.

The president tested positive for the virus on Wednesday June 7, and has since self-isolated at State Lodge in Kampala.

Museveni, however, said the COVID-19 symptoms have now lessened but his latest test came out positive.

The soreness I was feeling on Wednesday was less than one would feel with the usual flu. That soreness of muscles, has now gone. Also, some roughness on the throat, has gone.”

The president said he remains in self-isolation while awaiting another test in the coming days and urged Ugandans to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

On Monday morning, some of President Museveni’s party members and some well-wishers gathered at the gate of State House to deliver their ‘get well soon’ messages.

According to local media, an open space has been provided at the entrance of State House for members of the public to deliver their messages to the President.

The World Health Organization on May 5, 2023, ended the emergency it declared for Covid-19 more than three years ago.

But W.H.O. officials warned that the decision to lift the emergency does not signal an end to the pandemic, and cautioned countries not take this as reason to dismantle Covid response systems.
