MPs ask for recess

The members of National Legislative Assembly have requested the President to send them on recess for one month.

According to the conduct of business regulation, the assembly should have been on recess since June and resume work this month.

However, the chairman of the information committee says the MPs continued working to discuss important matters such as the approval of the peace agreement.

Hon Thomas Wani Kundu told Eye Radio that the assembly leadership sat last week and decided that the MPs should be sent on recess.

“Up to this moment, we are still waiting for the Ok from the president so that we can know the definite day that we can go for recess,” Hon Kundu said.

“And we are mindful about the development on the agreement. By this time, the constitution will have been tabled, the draft constitution that will incorporate all the provisions of the agreement, and give it to the committees concerned for studies and then to the parliament after one month.”
