The Western Equatoria State Ministry of Health reported a decline in Mpox cases across the state, with one confirmed case in May and zero deaths since March 2026.
Speaking to Eye Radio on Monday, May 18, State Health Minister James Abdallah Arona stated that the latest case occurred in Yambio County. He attributed the zero mortality rate over the past two months to public health awareness campaigns.
He confirmed that Yambio County recorded 24 cases in total, including the infection from this month.
Abdallah noted that health personnel continue to conduct awareness compliance drives, which halted fatalities. The last recorded Mpox death in Yambio occurred in February.
Data from the State Ministry of Health outlines the distribution of cases by county.
Yambio County recorded 24 confirmed cases and 85 suspected cases. Ezo County registered 23 confirmed cases and 38 suspected cases. Tambura County documented 5 confirmed cases and 10 suspected cases, while Nzara County recorded zero confirmed cases and 2 suspected cases.
The ministry continues to monitor data from health facilities across the region.
