MP John Masua died of diabetes while on malaria treatment – medical report

A medical report has presumed that lawmaker John Masua Mandaza succumbed to diabetes and hypertension, while being treated for malaria in Abyei.

According to the report dated 7th of November, and seen by Eye Radio, Masua, who was at his 70s, was pronounced dead upon his admission at Ghana Level 2 Hospital being run by the UN Interim Force for Abyei.

The deceased was a member of the Council of States. He was sent on a peace mission to investigate the recent conflict between Twic and Abyei  – when he died on Monday morning.

His demise was announced during a parliamentary sitting by Deputy Speaker Nathaniel Oyet on Monday.

Meanwhile, Ajak Deng Miyen, the spokesperson of the administrative government of Abyei border region released a statement of condolence after his death.

“On behave of the area administration and the entire Ngok Dinka, I would like to express my profound heartfelt condolence to his immediate family. The late was a nationalist who did his best towards South Sudan and its great people,” said Ajak.

Late General Masua participated in the Anyanya One guerilla movement, before becoming an army commander in the Sudanese Armed Forces.

He was a politician during the Bashir regime until he was appointed governor of Western Equatoria State, before the signing of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

He became a member of the Council of States, and after the independence, he served as the head of the committee for decentralized governance and state affairs in the council of states.
