Members of G-5 meet Kiir in Juba

A delegation of four members from the SPLM Former Political Detainees arrived Juba yesterday for a meeting with President Salva Kiir.

They include Deng Alor, John Luk Jok, Kosti Manibe and Chol Thong Mayai.

The four were accompanied by the Foreign Affairs Minister of Kenya, Amina Mohammed.

Akol Paul Kordit is the spokesperson of the SPLM.

He said the visit comes as a result of the meeting held between President Kiir and the Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in the sideline of the African Union in South Africa.

Mr. Akol said their arrival will give a push to the to the SPLM Arusha reunification agreement.

“I would therefore like this opportunity to call upon the SPLM in opposition and tell them that they must recommit themselves to Arusha Peace process which Doctor Riek in person was a signatory,” he said.

For her part the Foreign Minister of Kenya, Amina Mohammed, said her country will continue supporting the people of South Sudan in order to bring peace.

“We are here to support you to make sure that you continue in this wonderful journey that you have begun, to reconcile all your people and to bring peace, stability and security in your country.”

A representative of the SPLM former Political Detainees, John Luk Jok said they will continue exerting their efforts until peace is achieved.
