The commissioner of Art and Culture in Western Bahr el Ghazal State has described Eye Radio as a historical radio station with ‘powerful journalists’.

Alfred Derick made the remark during the official launch of Eye Radio repeater in Wau today.

“This is a powerful radio, with very powerful journalists; with people who are very committed to the South Sudan, making a great contribution to the development of our societies and communities by providing and offering very equal information,” Mr Derick told the gathering.

He acknowledged former veteran journalists of the radio, including Victor Lugala, Albino Okenyi and the current minister of Telecommunication and Postal services, Rebecca Okwaci.

They were senior journalists of Eye Radio, by then known as Sudan Radio Service.

Eye Radio is now broadcasting in five states. These include Eastern Equatoria, Central Equatoria, Western Bahr al-Ghazal, Northern Bahr al-Ghazal and Warrap.

The radio will also extend broadcasts to the rest of the states soon.

The expansion is a partnership between Eye Media and Zain Telecommunication Company.

Eye Media is a South Sudan non-governmental organization that is managing Eye Radio, with financial support from the USAID.
