French footballer Benjamin Mendy who stand accused of rape and sexual assault reportedly told one of his victims that he slept with 10,000 women, according to a trial court.

Mendy returned to a UK courtroom Monday to face a retrial for two alleged sexual offences, five months after a jury cleared him of multiple other counts, AFP reports.

The Chester Crown Court said it has heard that the Manchester City player, 28, reportedly told a young woman he had raped, that he had prior slept with 10,000 women and that she was not to worry.

Mendy is accused of attacking the woman, aged 24 at the time, at his £4 million mansion in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, in October 2020.

The footballer was tried on Thursday by a newly-selected jury.

He is also accused of the attempted rape of another woman, aged 29 at the time, who said he also attacked her at his home two years before.

Judges at his last trial in January 2023, failed to reach verdicts on the two charges involving two different women.

The panel of seven men and four women had cleared the defender of six other counts of rape and one of sexual assault against four women following a six-month trial.

Mendy, whose contract with Manchester City expires at the end of this month and is reportedly not set to be renewed, has denied all the charges filed against him.
