The situation at Malakal Teaching Hospital in Upper Nile is bad, according the state Minister of Information.

Thousands people are in need of urgent medical and food at Malakal Teaching Hospital.

The state Minister of Information, Philip Jiben says that there is a lack of medicine for the number of internally displaced persons camping at the hospital:

“The situation in the hospital is bad; the hospital is full of people, the number is around 8,000 people,” said Mr Jiben.

“This needs the intervention from the national government and international organizations to rescue the situation, because the hospital is totally full of people.

“Some of them are sick and others seeking protection here.”

Mr. Jiben said some humanitarian supplies were donated to the IDPs yesterday by a team of government officials touring the area.

Medecines San Frontieres that was operating in the area told Eye Radio last week that it was planning to resume operations at Malakal Teaching Hospital.

MSF stopped its work in Upper Nile after saying security of its staff was not guaranteed.
