An Uganda-based South Sudanese scholar has challenged South Sudanese in East Africa to be ‘go-getters’ saying that they have what it takes to be competitive on the African continent if only they can believe in themselves.

Dr.  David Fugoyo is the Vice-Chancellor of Africa Renewal University in Uganda. He said it takes resilience and self-belief to attain academic excellence.

In an exclusive with Eye Radio in Kampala, Uganda this week, Dr. Fugoyo said that South Sudanese need to be resilient and be people who want to push things forward.

He challenged South Sudanese, especially young people to shun laziness, and relaxation while expecting handouts from other people.

“South Sudanese love relaxing and we love waiting for people to give us our share, but let go to get our share.”

Dr. Fugoyo who is originally from Western Equatoria state said that it wasn’t easy for him to achieve what he has achieved today and ascend to the position of Vice-Chancellor outside South Sudan

“I ran after my education, I ran after the Ph.D. I didn’t have money to pay. I look for it. I suffered and all that. Let us be resilient let’s be ready to suffer for what we want and it will make us better people in the future”, said Fugoyo

Doctor Fugoyo has authored a book on what he called ‘inverted image’.

According to him, the book is aimed at challenging negative social issues and challenging young people to shun laziness and other unproductive activities that many South Sudanese are prone to such as playing cards, sipping tea, and sitting under trees and corridors.
