Leer: Civilians flee attack

The Medical Charity, MSF, says civilians are fleeing to their compound in Leer in former Unity State, after four incidents of rape, looting and violence this month.

MSF says at least one person was killed and more than two women raped in violence over the past few weeks.

In the latest incident this week, MSF says its workers could hear people screaming from their villages. Almost 30 civilians, mostly women and children, were forced to seek shelter at the MSF compound.

The emergency coordinator in Leer, Jens Pagotto, says the people were running away for their lives.

The charity has urged local authorities to take immediate action to ensure protection of civilians in Leer and other conflict-affected areas of the country.
