Four counties from Lakes and Warrap states are holding a joint peace conference in Chueibet to discuss ways of ending communal violence.

Over the last two years, the communities from both states have been engaged in revenge and inter-communal violence.

The four-day conference started yesterday with the participation of representatives from Chueibet and Rumbek North counties in Lakes State and from Tonj South and Tonj East counties in Warrap.

The Commissioner of Chueibet, Mayom Malek, says the meeting is a follow up to a previous conference to discuss how to restore co-existence between communities.

He said: “We are discussing issues connecting with conflict mediation and resource-sharing; how to share the resources among communities, especially in grazing land, water points at the border, and linking salt of animals and so on, and how we can stop problem of cattle raiding among community.”

“Now we are telling them that there is drought, and if there is tension again, then the resources which are at the border will not be use by any part. So it is better for you to united and take care of your cattle and be cooperative.”

Mr Maleksays youth, women, chiefs and elders are also attending the conference.
