The Kenyan Commercial Bank has assured customers who have a bank account in Bor, Bentiu and Malakal that their money is safe.

The bank’s three branches were robbed and destroyed during fighting between government and rebels forces over the last three weeks.

KCB-South Sudan Country Managing Director Haroon Kibigong told Eye Radio that customers can still access their money in other branches across the country.

“Even if you are in Wau, Yambio or Juba, you are able to draw your money. Any branch is your branch in KCB, it doesn’t matter whether you are in Bor, Malakal or Bentiu, you can come to any branch within Juba, you can go to any branch in Wau, Yei or Yambio, wherever we are, you can draw your money,” he said.

Mr Kibigong said the bank has donated 200,000 South Sudanese Pounds to the Crisis Management Team to support victims of violence in the country.

He said the donation is meant to provide basic necessities to Internally Displaced Persons.

“We just thought at KCB we would give a donation with which they can buy for them water and food. That was just our donation for the government or for the people of South Sudan to see to it that the Crisis Management Team can help their people. They will choose to buy for them food, blankets, whatever they decide to do, we don’t decide as a bank to say go and do this, and this because it is a crisis.”

Mr Kibigong said KCB will continue to operate in areas where there is no fighting.
