The government of Jonglei State is calling on the national government to intervene and bring an end to the inter-communal violence in Pibor Administrative Area.

The appeal comes after reports of escalating conflict in the outskirts of Gumuruk County and other parts of Pibor.

Earlier today, the minister of Information in the special administrative area reported more than 50 deaths and dozens of injuries in the fighting blamed on armed youth from Jonglei State.

In response, John Samuel Manyuon, the Minister of Information of Jonglei State condemns the attack on Gumruk County and called on his state youth to withdraw immediately.

“I would like to reiterate my call on the criminals, in the area of greater Pibor, if they are from Jonglei, the government of Jonglei is calling them back to return wherever they came from,” said Manyuon.

He further called on the national government in Juba to intervene – saying the situation is out of their control.

“I am appealing for the intervention of the National government. This is a cycle of violence that has been going on for many years, and we want that support from the National (government) and our Partners to see the solution in ending this cycle of violence.”
