The minister of livestock and fisheries has urged the government to build a Wildlife and Conservation Institute in Honor of the late Lt. Gen. Alfred Akwoch.

Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec made the direct appeal to President Salva Kiir on Tuesday during the state burial for Alfred Akwoch at the Midan Simba in Juba.

Adigo described Gen. Akwoch as a committed wildlife conservationist saying that naming an institute after him will be an honor.

“I am only requesting one thing; Alfred was committed to wildlife. There is a need to build an institute for wildlife in the name of Alfred Akwoch so that we can look after our wildlife in this country because it is a resource,” Onyoti said.

General Akwoch died at 77 years – of cardiac arrest last Thursday in Kampala, Uganda.

In his wildlife career, he served in Rumbek, Yirol, Kapoeta, Mangala, and Bor among others.
