The government negotiation team with David Yau Yau says it is committed to addressing the political demands of the Cobra Faction.

The two sides are set to resume talks in Addis Ababa under the church leaders’ mediation initiative.

In January, the government and the Cobra Faction of the South Sudan Democratic Movement signed a cessation of hostilities agreement.

Canon Clement Janda, who is the leader of the government delegation, told the press in Addis that the second phase of talks will focus on the political issues in Pibor County.

“The Cobra Faction of General David Yau Yau has eight points which we shall now pay attention to when the talks resume properly so that we can complete the picture and hopefully reach a comprehensive agreement,” he said.

The Leader of the Cobra Faction negotiation team, General Khalid Boutros also expressed their side’s readiness to sign a peace deal with the government.

“The suffering we have encountered on our way is a clear indication that we are committed to this peace agreement that will please both of us.”

The Chief mediator of the talks, Bishop Paride Taban urged both sides to urgently address the issues that concern the civil population.

David Yau Yau’s forces had earlier said they will remain neutral in the current conflict between the government and Dr. Riek Machar forces.
