Gov’t delegation to Addis talks returns to Juba

The government’s delegation to the peace talks has returned to Juba this afternoon after signing an agreement to re-activate the implementation of the cessation of Hostilities.

The delegation was headed by President Salva Kiir.

Speaking to the media on their arrival, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Michael Makuei said the two warring parties have signed two agreements that oblige them to move the peace process forward.

He says the two principals: President Salva Kiir and the leader of the SPLM-SPLA in Opposition Dr. Riek Machar, and their negotiating teams will return to Addis Ababa to continue with the talks on 19th of this month.

“So that the pre transitional period starts on the first of April, the first of April will mark the beginning or operationalization of the would-be agreement .This is the road map which we have agreed upon and the parties have committed themselves to ensure that we follow and respect the program or the agenda as laid down.” He said.

Makuei says he hopes that the Government and the SPLM-SPLA In Opposition will sign a lasting peace agreement when they return to Addis Ababa.
