Floods wash away Kapoeta’s Buno Bridge

Floods caused by recent heavy rains have destroyed a bridge that connects Greater Kapoeta to the state capital, Torit.

The Torit-Kapoeta Highway is a major route for traders who bring goods from Kenya to South Sudan.

The Acting Minister of Information, Ochan John says it is almost impossible to move between Torit and Greater Kapoeta counties by road.

“The three counties of Greater Kapoeta have been badly affected. A section of the bridge connecting Kapoeta South and Kapoeta East and eventually Kenya and South Sudan – it is called Buno Bridge – has been washed away,” Mr John confirmed to Eye Radio.

EES trade commodities such as foodstuffs and construction materials come from Kenya.

Mr. John has called on the national government to address the situation.
