The South Sudan Peace Committee has submitted a proposal to IGAD asking it to organize a conference of traditional chiefs in Addis Ababa next month.

“It says this would help to speed up the peace process to resolve the crisis in the country,” reported Michael Minassie, Eye Radio correspondent in Addis Ababa.

The committee also urged IGAD to invite some of the influential army generals from both sides of the warring partiesto attend the conference, to avoid violation of agreements on the ground.

“The Chairman of the committee, Dr. David Kueth Thiyang submitted the proposal to IGAD’s Chief Mediator, Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin yesterday,” he added.

Ambassador Mesfin said he would discuss the matter with his team of envoys and partners.
