UN flights to Unity resume

Author : | Published: Tuesday, September 2, 2014

UN flights to Unity state have resumed, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan has said.

The flights were suspended last week after a UN helicopter crashed near the state capital, Bentiu.

Three crew members died in the incident.

The acting spokesperson for UNMISS, Joe Contreras, told Eye Radio’s Sundown Program that UN flights to Unity State resumed on Sunday.

He said the flights are necessary for the coordination of the humanitarian activities.

“We are planning to send two more flights to Unity state capital but unfortunately bad weather forced us to cancel the flight but we will resume services on Tuesday,” he said.

He said some technical adjustments have been made for the flights, including identification of safe corridors.
