Legendary Jonglei State wrestler Ajak Kongor Ajak passed away in a car accident on Monday along the Juba-Nimule Highway.

The fatal accident occurred at mid-day between Aru-junction and Nesitu – a few miles to the west Rafaj of Juba County.

Majok Jokril Achol, the chairperson of Jonglei Wrestling Association says the late Ajak was traveling to Ayilo camp in Uganda when he got involved in the car accident.

Jokril said the late was moving with one of his wives who sustained injuries from the accident.

He said Ajak had informed him that he would travel to the camp to pay the school fees of his children.

“He had informed us that he was going to travel to take his children to school and come back after two days. According to what people are saying, it was the car’s tyre that busted and when the driver realized he then lost control and from there the car overturned.”

Ajak, 50, was the chairperson of culture in Jonglei Wrestling Association.

The wrestling official says the late will be remembered as a cultural hero and mentor by the coming generations.

“He was responsible for the wearing of cultural beads and dances, so that is what he used to do here (when he was still alive).”

Ajak Kongor started wrestling in 1990s as Adhiok lead-wrestler at his prime time until his retirement.

He was also a singer, businessman and a former national referee to South Sudan Wrestling Communities.
