Eye Radio wins local anti-corruption award

Eye Radio has won an award of Anti-Corruption and Transparency-Champion Award Winner.

This is the first award of its kind in South Sudan, initiated by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization, a local civil society group.

It is aimed at promoting the public fight against corruption and demand for transparency.

In a statement, CEPO said the Anti-Corruption and Transparency award will be its annual award targeting individuals, group of persons and institutions.

CEPO said the award is a result of efforts exerted by Eye Radio for its effective and evidentially reporting on the cases of corruption associated with Girls Education South Sudan, GESS.

It said Eye Radio is influential and created positive change for transparent and effective execution GESS across the country.

The group said some teachers and schools that were involved in mismanaging GESS are now held accountable by the relevant government authorities across the country.

CEPO executive director, Edmund Yakani said Girls Education South Sudan is a faithful and good intention of United Kingdom taxpayers for accelerating girls’ education in South Sudan.

Mr Yakani said the award will be given to Eye Radio on the 9th Dec. 2016, on the Anti-corruption International Day.

Mr Yakani said the award will be given by the leadership of the South Sudan Anti-commission Commission under the theme: “Making corruption case known counts”.

Catholic Radio Network has also won the award.
