The European Union has pledged $75 million towards humanitarian assistance in South Sudan.

The funds are expected to help more than 250,000 internally displaced persons across the country.

The EU ambassador to South Sudan, Sven Khan, said the money will be channeled through the government:

“I informed the minister that the European Union mobilized about ten days ago an amount of 50 million euros which is about $75 million as humanitarian assistance to address the most urgent needs the South Sudanese population face in these trending times”.

Ambassador Khan said the EU is encouraging the government and former Vice President Dr. Riek Machar to sign a deal on a cessation of hostilities and find an amicable solution to their political differences.
