A UN agency has launched an emergency program to provide food assistance to people affected by the crisis in the country.

The operation, which will be spread over three months, aims to reach 400,000 people displaced by the violence.

The World Food Program says it has allocated more than 55 million dollars for the operation.

“It aims to providing emergency assistance to up to 400,000 displaced people, providing especially nutritional support for new mothers and young children who are most at risk from their food supply,” WFP Information Officer George Fominyen told Eye Radio.

Mr. Fominyen said the WFP is working to overcome challenges preventing urgently needed relief from reaching those who need it.

A number of its warehouses have been looted over the last few weeks.
