Five secondary school teachers have been suspended from work in Eastern Equatoria State.

The State Minister, Michael Lopuke, told Eye Radio that the teachers were dismissed over reports of unprofessional conduct in getting female students pregnant.

“We did dismiss 5 teachers of St Bakhita Girls Secondary last week.” Mr Lopuke confirmed.

“The state Ministry of Education received a report last month regarding the pregnancy of one of the girls in the school by the teacher.

He said the ministry has formed a committee to investigate the matter.

“It was found that some of teachers also were involved in sexual relationships with the students – which are contrary to the teacher’s code of conduct and Education Act.”

Mr. Lopuke said one of the teachers has been transferred to a different school, while the other four are on long term suspension.

He said the dismissed teachers will be replaced.
